CommentLuv for Blogger via IntenseDebate

A few days back, I was testing the Intense Debate comment system for Blogger blogs. After going through the whole process, I found out that IntenseDebate wants bloggers to get a full template download from blogspot and then upload their blog templates to the IntenseDebate servers; they put their codes into the template and offer us a new template with the codes set inside it. Then bloggers have to upload this new template into their blogger blogs in order to have IntenseDebate enabled in the comment form.

If you don’t like it and want to uninstall, you’ve to go through the same process, i.e., download template from blogger, upload to IntenseDebate, they remove codes and give the old template back, then you upload it again to blogger. Now, what kind of a stupid mess is this, many of you might wonder. But yes, it is what it is. So long you continue to use IntenseDebate on blogger, they retain a copy of your template on their servers. Many bloggers might find it unacceptable, keeping a copy of their templates on some third party server.

There is something more serious to note: if you manually uninstall IntenseDebate from your blogger blog (without going through the boring download-upload-download-upload process, you’ll loose all the comments made by your loyal readers – whichever were made via IntenseDebate comment system. So you see, incorporating IntenseDebate comment system in Blogger blogs means they make you dependent on them. They hold your visitor’s comments at ransom. You must go through that terribly stupid and boring download-upload-download-upload process if you want to keep your comments intact even after uninstalling IntenseDebate.

What’s the use of such a service which which arrests the freedom of IntenseDebate members? Beware, CommentLuv for Blogger is available only through IntenseDebate! No matter how much you like CommentLuv, the comluv creator loves IntenseDebate more than he loves his members, that’s maybe why he has chosen to provide his service through IntenseDebate. But did he already know IntenseDebate is captivating blogspot users in such a grand way? What will happen if a user wants to apply a new template in his blogger blog? Ah, go through that silly boring process again! That’s how stupid it is!
