Cheapest & Fastest web hosting in India

First of all, never expect the best in cheapest rates. It is only possible in a dream and not in reality. In my opinion, the cheapest web hosting in India is not the best web hosting in India. The best web hosting in India is not the cheapest, not at least in Indian market. Clearly, these two web hosting are from different companies. One is cheapest, another one is the fastest among other servers in terms of ping speed for Indian web surfers.

Last year in March, I was looking for the cheapest package available in India, which has to be a decent web hosting in terms of up time, my bandwidth should be fairly allowed if not unlimited and the web space preferably over 10GB or so. After poking Google, I found out one web hosting is offering @ US $1 per month. Now that ad really caught my attention. I started to gather as much info as I could, including terms of payment. Because I had to host a personal website and not for any serious commercial or professional blogging purpose, hence I was ready to adjust in some features within the cheap package. One dolla a month, means 12 dollars a year and it is pretty much cheap and I though it cannot be cheaper than this.

Ok, here is what I got at first: 40GB web space, 100GB bandwidth, 10 MySQL databases, 20 subdomains and other standard set of features etc. The host was good, down time not more than 5 minutes per week. After about three months, they upgraded their package and all old customers also qualified. It’s not that only new signups got the enhanced package. Here’s what I got: 100GB web space, 1000GB bandwidth, 20 db and 30 subdomains. Price was kept the same. September to November is festival time in India, during that period they brought next upgrade, old customers again automatically qualified for that too: 1250GB web space (they call it unlimited), and unlimited bandwidth, 100 subdomains now, and 20 databases. Again, price was kept fixed at $1 per month.

In my opinion, it can’t be cheaper than this. Truly speaking, I’d never ever require 1250GB space in my entire life time. I mean, it’s ridiculous, uploading my entire HDD contents to the website – nobody does that. And, in a personal site, I’d not require more than 20 databases.

Now let’s talk about the fastest web hosting in India. Yahoo web hosting is the fastest of all servers in India. I checked, the ping reply is roughly 32ms. That’s lightening fast, if site is targeted for Indian users. This ping reply may increase to 290 ~ 320 ms for users from USA or UK. But hosting in Indian local servers is damn costly. Yahoo offers 5GB (that’s unlimited in Yahoo’s opinion) in Rs. 1999 per year. This 2010, they increased the price to Rs. 2999 per year (roughly US $60 per year). So if anyone is ready to spend that sum of money, then a fast web server is what is waiting for the buyer. But it’s not anywhere near cheap, leave alone cheapest!
